Sevilla kept their Europa League hopes alive while Real Madrid lost a chance to finish close to the Spanish Champions, Barcelona.

It was an important match for Los Blancos considering they had a chance to finish on the second position in the table. But they couldn’t capitalize on the occasion and will possibly finish behind Atletico Madrid in La Liga. However, Sevilla who were not considered favorites in this match shocked everybody with their performance against Real Madrid. Los Merengues stepped on the field with a young squad as Zinedine Zidane planned rest his senior players. Cristiano Ronaldo was absent from the squad due to an ankle injury that he suffered during El Clasico. While Gareth Bale was suspended after receiving a 5th yellow card in the last match against Barcelona. In addition, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Raphael Varane, Marcelo and Keylor Navas were rested for this game. Karim Benzema, Casemiro, and Sergio Ramos were the only players to start the game from the senior team.

Real Madrid dominated the game in terms of possession but couldn’t capitalize on numerous occasions. Los Palanganas, on the other hand, didn’t have a lot of possession but still scored on the few chances that they got during the game. Wissam Ben Yedder started the proceedings, after scoring with the help of a clinical finish. The Frenchman won the one on one battle against Ramos, after getting the ball right outside Real’s box. The 27-year-old striker then placed the ball through the legs of Kiko Casilla into the net.

Steven N’Zonzi was the playmaker of the second goal. The French midfielder played a through ball to Yedder and sprinted inside Madrid’s box. In the 58th minute, Sergio Ramos missed a brilliant chance of getting his team back into the game after failing to score from the penalty spot. The Madrid captain then scored an own goal as Gabriel Mercado’s shot got deflected from him and ended at the back of the net.

In the dying minutes of the game, Los Blancos got back two goals, but it was not enough to stop Sevilla from winning. The first goal came from the header of Borja Mayoral While Ramos scored the second goal from the penalty spot in the stoppage time. The game ended at 3-2 and Los Palanganas got three vital points that kept their chances to enter Europa League alive.
